A dance to the music of time

Contemporary and stylish, the Legat Dance Performances in May were the first showcase real for new Director of Dance Mary Goodhew. Several of the pieces were students’ own choreographic endeavours and during the evening all dance forms were demonstrated.

Christine Blewer was the choreographer for ‘The Maidens’ Ring’, a dance that investigates the myth and ritual dance of a stone circle in Cornwall and perfect for the younger dancers: Chloe Armstrong, Laetitia Barrett, Angelica Beacroft, Sophie Bordiehn, Abbie Chapman, Alice Lally, Emily Savage and Lydia Visick.

Head of Legat Charlie Hendren was the choreographer of Koku Voodoo, Lucy Arnold, Georgina Bell and Charlotte Mears the dancers.

One of the highlights was Orlando, written and choreographed again by Christine Blewer. The piece related the experiences of sisters Virginia Woolf and Vanessa Bell that shaped their personal and social reflections. A vibrant and at times very dark piece, Orlando gave the dancers the opportunity to reflect on the sisters’ issues with environment, nature, their roles in society as well as their past, present and future.
