A sports stars special assembly
St Bede’s England rugby, football and cricket players took a step down memory lane recently when they visited the Prep School for an assembly. All three boys, rugby player Rob Buchanan, footballer James Norwood and cricketer Luke Wells attended the Prep School before moving up to the Senior School.
During the assembly they talked about their international experiences and answered questions from the boys and girls. There were so many questions that the assembly ran over time and afterwards the boys were mobbed by the younger students for their autographs.
Rob Buchanan, who is Head of School, has been representing England for the last two years and last Easter played in the Six Nations U18 tournament and in a match against Japan.
James Norwood received his all-England call in January. A striker, James represented England in internationals against Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Luke Wells is Deputy Head of School and won his first England cap playing in a one-day U17s match against New Zealand U19s last summer. Luke batted at number four and knocked up a respectable 40 runs. He has now been selected for the U19 England squad and has just returned from Malaysia where the squad was in training for the U19 World Cup which will be played in Kenya in 2010. Luke is hoping to take up a place at Loughborough in September to read History and Geography.
