Private Study - 6th Form only

Band-A

Aims-Develop independent learning skills, as well as having the opportunity to keep on top of your work

Descriptions-Private Study is exactly what it says it is – it is a time to sit down and do some work in preparation for your exams – on your own. Private Study is not an excuse to go and sit around your houses and have a chat or go and watch sports games. It is important that we know where you are and what you are doing whilst you are under our care so all students doing Private Study must register. U5th students may opt to have one Private Study a week and they will have their Private Study supervised in the Dining Room where they will stay for the duration of the session – students will be allowed to listen to iPods and will have the opportunity to put into practice some of the study skills they have learnt in PSE. All U6th and L6th students are automatically entitled to one Private Study a week and can negotiate an extra one with their tutor if they feel their workload demands it. U6th day students will have the use of the library where they will be registered at the beginning of the session. A staff member will be in the library to ensure that there is quiet and good behaviour. Students will be able to use the computers in the computer room as long as they are used sensibly and are not being used for controlled assessments. All U6th boarders may work in their boarding houses – matrons will take a register to ensure that work is being carried out. L6th students will be assigned a Private Study room where they must register which will have computer facilities – they will then be allowed to study either in the room if they require quiet or in other designated areas if they wish to complete group work. Students may negotiate with teachers if they wish to use facilities such as art/ music/ drama etc. In addition Learning Support will hold a drop in session for any student in the L6th and U6th who wishes to have some extra support or help with their work.
