Book week

The corridors and classrooms of St Bede’s Prep School were once again filled with myriad characters from pupils best-loved books as the ever-popular Book Week began. The seven days were packed with visits from talented authors, competitions and quizzes, treasure hunts and fashion shows. The children followed the theme of ‘Occupations’ and the visiting authors – Jamie Crawford (an accomplished story-teller) for Years 3 & 4, John Row (author and story-teller) for Years 5 & 6 and Liz Million (talented illustrator) for Years 7 and 8 – helped the pupils to create some wonderful writing on this theme.

The week-long ‘Book Work’ Competition to find Mrs Brundle’s dream job (incidentally, an Air Hostess) was won by Lillie Skermann from Year 7. Her clever detective work was rewarded with a spending spree in Waterstone’s Book Store, followed by a slap-up tea for her and a friend at the Grand Hotel in Eastbourne.

This year’s Treasure Hunt to find the special Golden Book was a tricky one and the pupils and teachers had to wait a record number of days for it to be solved. Many congratulations go to Harvey Cole and Alex Griffiths, both from Year 8, who, having managed to locate the book at the very back of a dingy locker, were rewarded with ice-cream sundaes at Favo Loso’s. Thanks to all who took part – keep reading everyone!
