Charleston First Year Sponsored Walk

Who would have thought that Charleston girls could walk to the shop and back, let alone walk up and down seven hills. But on Sunday 13th June the First Year Charleston girls did just that., Lexi Young, Georgie Jones, Lorna Bonwick, Jasmine Brennan, Emma Horsfall-Turner, Bethany Bowman-Davidson and Rosa Parris, were inspired by words of encouragement from Sixth Form prefects Anna Daborn and Rhiannon Kirby, five members of staff and the sure knowledge the Ghana Education Project would reap the rewards of their endeavours.

Starting from Excet, via the Cuckmere Haven, the troop soldiered on with enthusiasm enjoying the fine sunshine as they walked. Along the way there were a few ice cream stops and lunch on the beach at Birling Gap.

With their energies lifted and smiles replenished, the gang made their way towards their final destination: St Bede’s Prep School, in Eastbourne. Towards the end of the walk, Miss Morris decided to encourage us to sprint up the final ‘Sister’, which we all did and then suffered the consequences at the summit. After around six hours of walking it was time for bed (via the pub – teachers only of course).

The sponsored walk raised a total of £150 for GEP. Well done to all who took part in what is likely to become a regular fixture in the Charleston House calendar.
