Classics Week
St Bede’s Prep School Classics Week kicked off with a bang when Years 6 and 7 filed into the Theatre to take part in a day-long workshop about the lives of the Romans given by Legion Geminae. Elaine Fraser-Gausden, Head of Classics, was pleased to see that a good number of the pupils were dressed in Roman attire and almost everyone in the audience took part in the many activities ranging from Roman games to army warfare, the lives of Roman Gods and Goddesses, make-up, music and entertainment.
The Junior and Senior Classics Parades saw a great many pupils dressed in some really interesting and imaginative clothes based on ancient times – not just Romans, but also Ancient Egyptians, Saxons and figures from Greek Mythology.
All week, many lessons had a classical theme, including English lessons on the art of myth-writing and Maths lessons on Roman numerals (plus a session of Fizzicus Buzzicus!), and a lot of the pupils took part in the Classics Week writing and art competitions. It all went to show that Classics is very much alive and thriving at St Bede’s.
