Classics week
St Bede's Prep School had another very successful Classics week with many classes undertaking work related to classical cultures; for instance, Maths lesson looked at Pythagorean triples and Roman numerals, RE lessons studied the Romans in Israel, English lessons were based on Greek myths, other activities involved mosaic tiles, classical panel-design and game-making.
A day-long Roman workshop was held for Year 6 and 7 St Bede's pupils in which they learned plenty of fascinating (and disgusting!) details about Roman life. Judging by the reports written afterwards, the children had a wonderful day. This was followed by a classical costume parade - there were some truly fabulous costumes made - very well done, especially to all the prize winners.
We received over 150 entries for the art and writing competitions and much of the work was of very high quality (making it very hard to judge!). Winners were eventually chosen and prizes awarded in Assembly. Those pupils who created the chosen Year 8 designs will be collaborating later in the year on 2 large classical panels which will be hung in the school building for all to admire.
Thank you to all the staff and pupils who helped to make Classics Week really special again this year.
