Eastbourne Youth Radio

For the first time, St Bede’s Prep School took part in Eastbourne Youth Radio. Known locally as EYR it is a scheme that allows pupils and students of all ages to learn and take part in a radio production, from scripting, editing, presenting to post production.

Both St Bede’s Senior and Prep School had an hour slot. Representing the Prep School with their undoubtedly fantastic presenting talents were the head boy and girl, Fred Dimbleby and Brooke Mason. After a very early start the presenters and musicians were ready and Fred and Brooke took to the mics at 7am introducing (complete with a home composed jingle) what the rest of the show had to offer.

The morning started off with some up to the minute news reports with Sam, Will, Ivan, Jack and Andrew. This was shortly followed by a fantastic feature ‘From Pop to the Pulpit’ with ex Communades band member Richard Cole, who joined Fred and Brooke live from London via telephone link. Richard has turned from pop star to priest and this interview gained lots of laughs as well as covering some serious points.

The show also included a comedy slot which was pre-recorded and which was highly amusing as well as featuring a slot with Andrew and Jack who covered movie reviews, new fashions, horoscopes, confessions, dilemmas and school situations.

Another highlight from the show was the live performances and interview with St Bede’s Prep School band Flying Blind who managed to tear the roof off with two outstanding songs.

After such an outstanding show it didn’t seem possible that anything could top it but the St Bede’s Prep School EYR team pulled it out of the bag and in a grand finale Brooke and Fred were able to offer their listeners a world exclusive with the first ever play of the new Jools Holland track.

Special thanks should go to all involved in the radio programme as well as Mr Bevington for overseeing everything from beginning to end. As well as all the kitchen staff for serving such a fantastic breakfast in the dining room so that all the staff and pupils were able to listen to the show.
