Egyptian day

In support of their study of the ‘Ancient Egyptians' this term, Year 5 took part in a feast fit for a Pharaoh.

Thanks to one of our school chefs, who has an interest in the historical preparation of food, the pupils were able to enjoy a menu which was as close as possible to a sumptuous feast from the past.

Lamb on the bone (posing as goat) marinated in herbs commonly used by the Ancient Egyptians, fish (not quite caught in the Nile) and chicken eggs (in place of storks' eggs) were but a few of many items included on the main course.

This was accompanied by the most gritty, granular bread that could be found, but we hope that unlike the desert dwelling Egyptians, it didn't wear down Year 5's teeth too much!

In the heat produced by the burning of scented oils, several pints of non alcoholic beer and wine were consumed to quench the thirst.

During the intervals between ‘the dancing girls' and a quiet board game of ‘Senet', our young Ancient Egyptians sampled the exotic delights of pomegranates, figs and dates...and around tea-time, delicious honey and date cakes.

Everyone looked fabulous and had obviously gone to a great deal of trouble with their outfits. Meticulous attention was paid to detail with the eye make up, not least of all, by the boys!
