Election Fever Hits St Bede's
Students at St Bede's had the opportunity to participate in their own General Election on Thursday 6th May. Mr Dickie and Mr Reynolds organised the hustings where the four candidates could put their parties' case before the electorate. Mrs Vincent acted as returning officer and we had no problems with voters being turned away before they could cast their vote. This was a good opportunity for students, nearly all of whom will be eligible to vote in the next general election ( If we have a full term Government!) to experience the democratic process. The whole procedure was carried out with a spirit of good will and without too much of the unpleasantness which sometimes marred the national event
I declare that the number of votes cast for each candidate was as follows:
Mr Peter Butler-Way (Labour Party) 28
Mr Aiden Culley (Conservative Party) 80
Mr Charles Pullan (Liberal Democrat Party) 115
Mr James Ricketts (Green Party) 55
and that Mr Charles Pullan has therefore been elected to represent the constituency of St Bede's School
