Election day at St Bede's
Year 7 pupils from St Bede’s Prep School had the exciting opportunity of visiting the Houses of Parliament recently.
As soon as they arrived, groups were whisked away to watch and listen to interesting debates that were taking place in the House of Commons and the House of Lords. Unfortunately no famous faces were spotted.
Next on the agenda was a very informative and fun workshop on the election process. This involved the children dividing into different political parties, deciding on their Party’s manifesto and then returning to their constituency for the vote, every member of Year 7 was a candidate and they all voted in their constituency. The candidates with the most votes went on to run for Prime Minister. This was a unanimous victory for Year 7 pupil Mercedes de Ipina Sanchez, who had only been in the country for a week!
Year 7 also enjoyed a tour of the buildings, St Stephen’s Hall and Central Hall, marvelling at the beautifully constructed and painted ceilings.
By this time the sun had come out and everyone trooped over to the Horseguard’s Parade and then on to St James’ Park for a picnic lunch.
Overall it was a very informative and fun packed day for everyone. The Year 7 children were extremely well behaved making it a truly pleasurable experience for all.
