GCSE RESULTS
Focus on the individual, flexibility of programmes and such a high number of courses offered, have again helped St Bede’s students achieve their goals at GCSE and in some cases at IGCSE and AS Level as well. Results were improved on last year with 84% winning A*-C grades.
Anna Hutchins gained ten A*s at GCSE and an A at AS in both English Literature and Maths, Alice Lynch gained nine A*s, an A at AS Maths and a B at AS English Literature whilst Henry Todman notched up seven A*s, three As and a B at GCSE and added AS English Literature and Maths to his haul.
Twins Tom and Maddie Glenn proved the importance of added value; both exceeding their predictions and gaining nine and eight GCSEs respectively with Tom achieving two grade As and Maddy five.
Students taking Modern Languages achieved a 100% pass rate A*-C in Spanish, Italian and Russian, a 92% pass rate in German and 89% in French.
St Bede’s reputation as one of the top schools in the country for Art, shone through in the results with a 100% pass rate A*-C in Applied Art, Graphic Design, Ceramics, Photography and Textiles. It was a similar story for the Performing Arts with a 100% pass rate A*-C for Music and Dance students and 93% for Drama.
For some students, the chance to accelerate certain subjects gives them the opportunity to widen their GCSE choices and eventually their A Level choices. Amy Camp is just one Year 10 student who won A*s in English Literature, English Language and Maths in the tougher IGCSE exams a year early. There were 17 Year 10 candidates who gained A* or A in IGCSE Maths and 27 A* and A grades were achieved in IGCSE English Literature and Language by Year 10 students.
Headmaster Dr Richard Maloney said: ‘Our drive to innovate, support the individual and motivate all students remains undimmed. We are so proud of all our students, and our measure of success is how well each individual does. For some, B grades are a triumph whilst others might find A*s come easily. Our staff spend a tremendous amount of time coaching and supporting every youngster and these wonderful results will fuel our ambition to even greater successes in the coming years.’
