Graffiti Worshop

To launch this year’s Arts Festival St Bede’s Prep School arranged for a Graffiti Workshop to take place and breathe new life into the worn out walls outside the Art/Sports Centre.

The artist Prime arrived at the Prep School from London in time to make a presentation to the School about work. Having started life as a Graffiti artist in urban England, children and staff alike were all transfixed as he relayed his unusual life story. Now a successful artist and educator, Prime spends his time making, exhibiting and selling huge drawings that are more John Ruskin than Banksy and directing an arts GCSE course for young people who have fallen out of the education system.

Throughout the day Years 7 and 8 enjoyed three artist led workshops, culminating in a vibrant display of colourful graphics that celebrate the art and sports department. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed designing and spray painting, the results have a mixed reception amongst the staff, but wholehearted approval from the pupils. The whole day was without a doubt a most enjoyable and educational experience.
