Indian Feast
St Bede’s Year 4 recently had a most wonderful 'India Day'. They arrived at school proudly clutching their contributions for the Indian feast to be had later in the day and then once their Games lesson was over by morning break-time, the transformation took place; the children and staff changed into Indian clothes; there was an instant, wonderfully vibrant and colourful fashion show of traditional and modern outfits.
Tempting smells of Asian cuisine gently rested on the air as the children met the challenges of Indian numeracy and letterwork as well as designing the intricate artwork for making their own carrier bags. Background Bollywood Music could be heard drifting (pulsating!) along the corridor and some children could not resist the temptation to get up and rehearse the Bollywood dance moves they had learned earlier in the term, in Dance Workshop sessions, from Sussex University Students.
Lunch was a delicious Indian meal prepared by Chef Darren Pierce and his team, which the whole school appreciated and the 'icing on the cake' was a beautiful summer day. It was too good to miss and the quick thinking of Mrs West soon had all of the children excitedly involved in parachute games whilst hasty buffet- feast preparations took place on the patio of the dining room.
We ended the afternoon with the scrummiest picnic and thanks to the parents, with enough food to feed the whole school.
