Anthony Sewell

We are very pleased to announce that Anthony Sewell has joined us as Guest Teacher
Anthony was born in a small Lincolnshire market town and started dancing purely through chance. He won a scholarship and became the only boy in the county to attend the Royal Academy of Dance in York for four years. At the age of 15 he entered the Upper School of the Royal Ballet and was chosen to dance Ashton’s choreography in Death in Venice.
Whilst in his second year helping a graduate colleague to settle his nerves Anthony attended an audition for a new company and was offered a soloist position. This he took but, unfortunately, the company folded; however, Anthony was invited to work with Robert Mead who was Ballet Master at Hanover. After a year, change beckoned again and Anthony was called to work with John Neumeier. Diverse roles followed, from partnering Marcia Haydee, to being a Shark in West Side Story, to the lead in Le Sacre du Printemps.
After his dancing career Anthony returned to the Royal Ballet School to study teaching. During this time he was loaned to the Royal Conservatory den Haag, taught in Hamburg and after a year received his teaching Diploma from Dame Ninette de Valois.
Invited to Chester by his former teacher, Anthony went to The Hammond School for five years. It was during this time that he started to choreograph encouraged by Sara Neil & Walter Trevor. Anthony’s ballets were well received and soon became an integral part of the school's performance at the Gateway Theatre.
With the retirement of his director and friend Anthony moved to Elmhurst as male resident teacher. It was in his second year that Anthony was asked by Dame Merle Park to return home and teach at The Royal Ballet School. During his time at White Lodge, Anthony was called upon again to choreograph, and his pieces have been seen at both the Linbury Studio Theatre and Royal Opera House. Diversity being a constant fellow, Anthony was asked to choreograph for H.R.H. Prince Philip's 80th Birthday at Windsor Castle and was requested to attend the Vaganova Academy as an observer in St. Petersburg.
Alas due to the declining family health, Anthony left White Lodge after 10 years to attend to his parents and has only recently started to make guest appearances.
