Paying tribute to the athleticism and hard work it requires to be a dancer, the organisers of this year’s Sussex Sports Awards invited St Bede’s Legat dancers to provide the entertainment at the recent awards ceremony.

The Legat School of Dance is part of St Bede’s School Trust and young people can join in Year 4 and combine dance training based on the foundation techniques of classical ballet with a full education.

At the Senior School sixth formers following an intensive two-year course can enter for AS and A Level Dance and prepare for auditions or entry to higher education courses. The School also runs an Associate Programme for six to 16 year olds on Saturdays and after school and a Recreational Dance Programme after school and at weekends for two and a half year olds to 90 year olds.

The Sussex Sports Awards celebrate the best sportsmen and women in Sussex and also acknowledge the work of coaches, officials, volunteers, sports professionals, parents and clubs.

The St Bede’s Legat dancers wowed the 600-strong audience with two pieces – a fun and athletic piece for the Prep and Year 9 dancers and a jazzy number for the Senior dancers which incorporated ballet and jazz to the music of War of the Worlds. The Senior piece was choreographed by St Bede’s teacher Natasha Mazzucato.
