Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf

The Year 4 children of St Bede’s Prep School have had a wonderful time rehearsing and performing Roald Dahl’s ‘Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf’. There were alternating casts performing for the two dress rehearsals and the two final performances for friends and family and they played to a full house on each occasion, to hugely appreciative audiences.

An hilariously funny, slow-motion brawl between the goodies and baddies of the creature world of the woodland, instigated by Sergeant Sue of the do-gooder Piglet Patrol team, may have lulled the wolf into a false sense of security. However, even with all of his cunning and the help of his trusted creature allies, he was no match for the unexpected karate skills of Little Red Riding Hood and her supporters. Furthermore, to add insult to injury and just when it mattered most, she deftly ‘whipped a pistol from her knickers’ (a skill most probably learnt from her feisty old grandmother) and put a swift end to the wolf’s festive intentions! The whole population of the woodland seemed to know of this hiding place and in perfect unison and fine, full voice, gleefully reminded the audience - Roald Dahl would have been proud of them!

The Year 4 teacher-producers of the play, Yve Pavey, Annie Fuller and Jacqueline Sheridan, along with the musical director, Rachel Barrett and the lighting manager, Peter Meier were all delighted with the progress and development of the singing, acting and dancing skills of the children; they truly excelled themselves and gave cheerful, lively and slick performances on every occasion.
