London Theatre trip
On Tuesday, 20th January, the Year 8 children enjoyed the full range of theatrical experience when they visited London.
As part of their cross-curricular studies of William Shakespeare, they firstly visited The Globe Theatre and Exhibition in the morning. They had a detailed and interesting tour of this magnificent reconstruction of Shakespeare's original theatre. This was followed by time in the Exhibition where they were able to make sketches and notes, which will be invaluable for their projects. Some were also able to watch the costume demonstration, which showed how young male actors could be transformed, through clever use of clothing, into Shakespeare's heroines. Our thanks go to Joel Harvey from 8I for his modelling prowess.
After a quick and rather blustery lunch on the Embankment, the children were taken to the Fortune Theatre in Drury Lane, where they watched the powerful and spine-tingling performance of Susan Hill's ‘The Woman in Black'. It was thoroughly appreciated by all, even if it did cause a few hearts to pound!
This was a very successful trip for all concerned. Many members of the public commented on the excellent behaviour of our Year 8's, and the children themselves said what a useful and enjoyable experience it had been.
