New St Bede's Senior School Headmaster appointed
The Governors of St Bede's School Sussex are delighted to announce that Richard Maloney (37) is to be appointed as Senior Head. He is one of the leading fast-track contenders for Headship of his generation and is currently Deputy Head at Sutton Valence School in Kent. Richard Maloney has Masters Degrees in Theology and Educational Management and a Post Graduate Certificate of Education from St Andrews, King's College, London and Cambridge Universities respectively. Additionally, he will complete the final stages of a Doctorate with King's before arriving at St Bede's.
Quite apart from his academic pedigree, the Governors were hugely impressed with Mr Maloney's recognition and understanding of the St Bede's ethos of inclusiveness and it’s nurturing of the individual students' varied abilities and talents; this has led to providing an exceptionally wide range of academic courses and extra-curricular activities with much success, including most recently becoming the English Schools FA National Football Champions. Richard's approach to education and his career experience, including a period at a large state school, has equipped him well for this special role.
Richard Maloney, accompanied by his wife and two children, will succeed Stephen Cole on the 1st of August 2009. Mr Cole will leave after eight very successful years with much sadness, but understandably could not refuse a direct offer to return to his home city of Auckland, New Zealand to Head a large and renowned school there. Richard Maloney is well placed to lead St Bede's into its next phase of development following the recent admission to the prestigious Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference (HMC).
