Baby Unit

Sleep

We are very keen to work closely with you to provide the sort of care your baby requires. Some parents find that their baby is happiest if they are allowed to sleep as and when needed. Others find that they need to only allow a certain length of sleep during the day so night time patterns are not disturbed. We provide and launder all bedding which is named and kept in your child’s own basket. Babies are helped to get off to sleep and then checked every 10 minutes as well as having a baby monitor system.

Food and drink

We will give your baby the pureed food you wish to provide, home prepared or jars, until they are able to eat solid foods and you are happy for them to enjoy the variety of meals we have to offer. We ask that formula milk powder is measured out at home and will then be mixed at Nursery. Our catering team will be happy to speak to you about any special dietary requirements your child may have.

Toilet Training

We will discuss toilet training with you when your child is showing signs that they are ready to begin and work closely to ensure that your toddler has a relaxed but consistent approach both at home and at Nursery. We ask you to provide the nappies and wipes that you would like used for your child until they reach this point.

A Typical Day

Your baby will experience a wide variety of activities to help develop hand-eye coordination, sensory development, emotional, cognitive and language development, physical development as well as developing a growing sense of independence. There is a basic routine to the day but also plenty of room for individual attention by carers to their specific babies. The day will include snacks, rest periods, discovery time both as a group and individualised activities and outdoor play. Our unique location and store of buggies ensure that even our youngest babies benefit from daily outside experiences with strolls to the park and along the sea front.

What feedback will you get?

Every day you will receive a summary chart which will indicate what activities your baby has experienced that day as well as sleeps, food/drink consumed and nappy changes. There will also be space for you to comment should you wish.

We have an open door policy throughout the St Bede’s community so you are welcome to talk to your babies’ carers when you drop off or collect your child. You can also make appointments for a more private meeting or telephone discussion. Your first point of call should always be your babies’ key person and you may also wish to liaise with the Nursery Team Leader, Louise Hackett, or Head of Pre-Prep and Nursery, Nova Shoesmith.
