Passover at the Prep School
On Wednesday morning pupils in Year 3 experienced a demonstration Passover Meal as part of their Religious Studies course on Judaism. Andrew Jay, Chairman/Lay Reader of Eastbourne Progressive Jewish Congregation and Angela Jay, Administrator from the Eastbourne Progressive Jewish Congregation hosted the meal, with samples of traditional food and Hebrew prayers. The children sampled key foods from the Passover Meal and learnt about their significance for Jews. Alastair Orr from Year 3 enjoyed the meal. "The food was yummy", he said, "but I didn't like the horseradish!". The bitter horseradish root is eaten to remind Jews of the harsh treatment of the Israelites in Egypt. After the meal the children looked at some religious artefacts and also found out what their names would be in Hebrew. Passover is on Thursday 9th April.
