Drama is taught in fortnightly class lessons, as part of the curriculum, throughout the school. In addition, there are masterclasses, clubs and activities for those children who are particularly keen or talented.

All children are involved in at least one drama production during the year, often a year group musical, and there is a Shakespeare Study for the senior pupils in their final year. The Pre-prep children always produce a Nativity Play.

Recent productions include The Canterbury Tales, Bull in a China Shop, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, HMS Pinafore, Alice in Wonderland, Out of this World, The Button Box, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Pupils see professional companies perform, both in school and at the theatre; we are lucky to have a good selection of theatres within easy distance. We are also invited to some of the Senior School performances. As one the Shakespeare Globe Star Schools, we are annually invited to take part in the Shakespeare Schools’ Festival, where a select group of senior children perform a chosen text at the Globe Theatre.

Quite a selection! But typical of the busy and enthusiastic life of the Drama Department.
