Senior 6-8
The final three years at prep school represent an important stage in your child’s educational development. Although remaining in a tight-knit form group, he or she will learn to become more independent, more self-disciplined and will develop the study skills necessary for senior school.
Year 6 represents the end of Key Stage 2, but also the stage where children at St Bede’s move away from being taught largely by a form teacher to lessons from specialist teachers.
In Years 7 and 8 pupils prepare for Common Entrance Examinations to the senior school of your choice. Pupils are expected to work more independently and undertake several in-depth projects. The Common Entrance Examination is an external examination for entry to almost all independent senior schools. The most able students will sit scholarship examinations and tests. Details of scholarships can be obtained from the relevant senior school.
In addition to the academic curriculum, all students join in the school’s extensive options programme on Monday and Thursday afternoons. They can also stay after school to take part in the extra-curricular activities programme. These two programmes offer a wide range of sporting, recreational and cultural opportunities.
