Prize Giving 2011

As another busy academic year drew to a close for St Bede’s Prep School, pupils, parents, teachers and friends gathered in the sports hall for Prize Giving.

Prize Giving at St Bede’s Prep School is always something which is highly anticipated amongst the school community. Last year’s audience were treated to a hilarious address from Sir Ronnie Corbett and this year Mr David Dimbleby took to the stage.

This was a particularly emotional year for Mr Dimbleby as his son Fred, who has been at the Prep School since Nursery was finishing his final year at the School, a year in which he had shown fantastic leadership as Head Boy.

Before a funny and particularly emotional speech from Mr Dimbleby seven of the Prep School leavers helped the Headmaster, Mr Nicholas Bevington with his annual report. Much to the amusement of the audience and Mr Dimbleby, seven mini David Dimblebys emerged with white talcum powder hair and dressed in pink shirts. The acting was superb and the script was hilarious as the students took us through The Seven ages of St Bede’s. The ages of Arts, Athleticism, Adventure, Activities, Achievements and Alliance were covered and finally for the grand finale Fred Dimbleby, impersonating his father, ended with a very funny summary of the St Bede’s Age of Academia.

The morning was a huge success with fantastic performances also of Rhythm of Life by Years 3, 4, 5 and the Senior Choir. All of the teaching staff made a surprise appearance halfway thorough when they all emerged from different places in the audience to join in and showcase their talents of blowing whistles. The Year 6 band gave a fabulous performance of Smoke on the Water which was followed by a performance of Fragile from the School’s legendary Year 8 band Red Plectrum.
