Aberdare and Glanvill Cup National Finals at Queenswood School, Hertfordshire (4th-9th July)

The St.Bede's U19 Boys Tennis Team had a tremendous result reaching the semi-finals in the National School Finals where the top 16 schools in the country compete in the week long tournament. This is following many qualifying matches commencing in April and around 3,000 school entering at the initial stages. In the quarter-finals they beat the number 3 seeds from the North-East, Rivington & Blackrod;the team that knocked us out at the quarter-final stage last year. This was another tense affair and after going down 3-1 the boys fought back and responded well to coach Julie Salmon who was determined that these boys were not to go out of this competition without digging deeper and finding a way to turn this match around. There were some superb performances and incredibly high level of tennis to tie the match at 3-3 before Valentin Clements and Julian Cash won a nail biting tie break shoot out to reach the semi-finals.This was the first time that any of the team had reached this far in the National Event and pleasing to see how elated the were at this comeback and a semi-final the following day.We were then beaten by the favourites and eventual champions Reed's School. A really pleasing week for a team the has been committed all year and driven to succeed in this in this fabulous tournament. St.Bede's is now ranked 4th in Great Britain. Team:Sam Chamberlain, Valentin Clements, Julian Cash, Elliot Moyle and Harrison Seward
