BTEC Gig

The ‘BTEC Gig’ – the annual performance from those musicians studying Music Performance and Music Technology is one of the highlights of St Bede’s Senior School’s music calendar and, as always, this year’s gig on Friday 28th January displayed an astonishingly high standard of musical talent and was an altogether fantastic evening.

It was a full house and the atmosphere was buzzing in anticipation as we took our seats, put down our drinks and got ready to put our hands together. Kicking off the evening with their take on Moondance were the Upper Sixth BTEC students. The style was jazzy for the first half of the evening, exemplified by pieces such as Tenderly performed by Georgia Ellis and Cheek to Cheek performed by Lydia Bannister with bundles of personality and expert stage presence.

Steven Johnson gave a jaw dropping performance serenading everyone in the room with a piece of his own work and managing to make it look effortless. The audience were riveted by the presentation of the Music Tech work piece, transcending the mood from a jazz club to a lively modern gig. This was followed by a unique acoustic take on Dynamite by Ed and Lucas, impressing the audience with their youthful talent.

Nick Dunne and The Eyes took the stage with Jodi Hughes on vocals raising the tempo - and volume! Their flawless performance and Jodi’s powerful voice had the audience on their feet and palms red raw from clapping!

The Upper Sixth BTEC students finally returned to the stage to close the evening and kick off the weekend! Larah Charlesworth’s incredible vocal range was illustrated in their final performance of the night - Take On Me, with Olivia Bohac’s impeccable drumming and the ever uplifting resonance of the wind instruments. The audience once more rose to their feet and pounded their palms together in great awe and appreciation of being part of such a spectacular evening.
