Shimo for England over 60’s

St Bede’s Prep School’s very own Mark Shimmons has been playing cricket for England. With a wealth of knowledge of the game, Mark, known as Shimo within the school has been playing cricket for England over 60’s. At the age of 63 Shimo has a depth of knowledge of the game that he passes onto the pupils at St Bede’s Prep whilst running the sports hall and coaching teams.

During August Shimo played three matches for England against Wales, hosted at the picturesque cricket ground within Pontypool. Due to the weather only one game took place as two games were rained off. However, Shimo an all-rounder managed to take three wickets with the ball for twenty nine runs and score thirteen runs with the bat.

Shimo an Ex RAF officer served for 31 years within which he coached the RAF 1st XI cricket team. He joined the Prep School in 1998. He lives in Willingdon and plays for their cricket club regularly on a Saturday when he is not called up to play for Sussex in the Inter-County Championship.
