St Bede's Hockey U16 Boys Match their U14 Champions

The U16 Boys from St Bede's played Hurstpierpoint at Lewes Hockey Club in the Sussex County Cup and triumphed 4-1.

Coaches Steve Paxton and Rob Cornell were confident going into the final, as they had played Hurst two weeks prior and won 3-1. From the start St Bede's dominated the game and went 1-0 up. Hurst then settled and the game was played mainly in midfield. St Bede's then went on the offensive and scored a goal just before the half time whistle (2-0). After half-time the target for St Bede's was to get to 3-0 up which they did within seven minutes of the start of the second half. Due to a two minute slip of concentration by the St Bede’s defenders, Hurst scored a great goal over the goal keeper’s left arm to have a glimmer of hope. The game was finally over when St Bede’s scored their fourth goal with only six minutes to go and St Bede's were crowned Sussex Champions for the second time in two days. James Langston scored a hat-trick and Pat Skinner scored the fourth.
