St Bede's Soccer Girls get through to National Final
St Bede’s girls won through to the Independant Schools Football Association for Girls National Cup Final by beating Wycombe Abbey 2 – 0 in the semi-finals.
Due to illness the team was missing three regular players in Olivia Bohac, Marcheeba Clarke and Olivia Hatfield and had only the bare 11 to travel to Wycombe Abbey. Elena South scored a lovely goal in the opening half with a perfectly weighted through ball from Captain Jade Barraclough to take the ball calmly past their keeper. In the second half St Bede’s were awarded a penalty from a handball and Jade Barraclough placed the ball on the spot and scored with conviction. Marleine Ngengo, Lisa Black, Naomi Dowse, Gemma Cope and Yolanda King defended like Trojans as well as producing some creative play and triangles to allow Mia Harvey, Lauren Allymohamed, Veronika Murray and Elena South to run at the opponents. Jade was great at keeping the shape of the team and proved to be very similar to Kelly Smith in her creative passing. Finally Sophie Rudge made two great saves in goal and her distribution was paramount to our fast counter-attacking play.
St Bede's will play Stamford High School in the final at a venue and date to be confirmed
