St Bede's Soccer Girls are National Champions
When girls began to play soccer at St Bede’s Senior School, in the autumn of 2008, it was to add another choice to their sporting options. At the start of the 2009-10 season they decided to enter the Independent Schools Football Association for Girls Cup Competition to gain some experience in playing more established teams. However their natural skills and intelligence, together with the coaching ability of Miss Sharon Muxworthy and their own hard work, took them successfully through round after round, culminating in a match on Sunday 20th June against Stamford High School for the ISFAG National Cup. In the first half St Bede’s went one up after a goal by Elena South, a feat she repeated in the second half to make the final score 2-0. Olivia Bohac, Captain, directed her team with skill; ably assisted by the Vice-Captain Jade Barraclough. Sophie Rudge was confident in goal throughout, as she could afford to be as nothing got past our sweeper, Marleine Ngengo. However it was teamwork and enthusiasm for the beautiful game which led them from raw beginners to National Champions in two years.
