St Bede's Students help Ugandan School
The St Bede’s group which visited the Quicken Trust’s work in Kabubbu, Uganda, last year came across a small primary school run by the Church of Uganda, whilst on a walking tour of the area. The foundations of a new building had been prepared a few years previously, but work had been halted due to a shortage of funds. The St Bede’s students were so taken by the welcome they received from the children at the school, that they decided to help. The students each donated about £60 of their holiday spending money to finance the completion of two brick built classrooms with corrugated iron roofs.
The Quicken Trust were extremely helpful throughout, even though this school was not part of their work. In addition the students paid for some basic classroom furniture which was made by the local carpenter using local wood in the Quicken Trust’s workshops. We also financed windows and doors for the classrooms. So as well as helping to construct a house for one of the poorest families in the Kabubbu area, as part of our visit to the Trust; the students also enabled a further two classes of primary children to receive an education which they would otherwise have had, let alone enjoyed. This will be a special legacy and memory for all the staff and students concerned in last summer’s trip to Uganda.
