St Bede's presents - An Enchanted Evening- Congress Theatre, Eastbourne 6th Dec
An Enchanted Evening
The Congress Theatre, Eastbourne
6th December 7.15pm
St Bede’s School will be bringing some early Christmas magic to Eastbourne’s Congress Theatre, with its production of An Enchanted Evening – an evening of dance and musical theatre.
For over 10 years now, St Bede’s has been home to the famous Legat School of Dance and An Enchanted Evening will showcase the talent of the Legat dancers as well as many of the School’s musicians and singers.
The evening will begin with a beautiful contemporary piece based on the picture of Ophelia by the 19th Century Pre-Raphaelite painter, Dante Gabriel Rossetti. Then be prepared for some fantastic magic as Captain Beaky takes to the stage with his band – Timid Toad, Reckless Rat, Artful Owl and Batty Bat, with Hissing Sid slithering in the background.
From Captain Beaky we move on to Musical Theatre with a selection of favourite songs from the musicals: Supercalifragilistic, Truly Scrumptious, Castle on a Cloud, I Could Have Danced All Night, Adolfo and Step in Time.
The climax of the evening will be a performance of Act II of Giselle. The audience will be transported to a misty, moonlit forest for one of ballet’s most romantic favourites. Act II opens with Hilarion, a gamekeeper and Albrecht, a German count, lost in the forest. Ghostly figures that appear to them are led by their Queen and are spirits of dance loving maidens who have died before their wedding day.
They force Hilarion and Albrecht to dance and keep dancing until Hilarion, in desperation to escape, drowns in the lake. Giselle’s spirit dances with Albrecht and in so doing keeps him alive until dawn breaks and the spirits evaporate.
Tickets for the performance are available from the Congress Theatre box office on 01323 412000 and are priced at £8.50.
