St Bede’s retain the Langdale Cup with a comprehensive 9 wicket victory.
The Langdale Cup finals day was this year held at Ardingly.
In St Bede’s semi final v Hurst., Hurst batted first and scored a competitive 137 on a used pitch. St Bede’s bowling wasn’t as tight as it might have been, but nonetheless Hurst were not fazed by the pace of the St Bede’s attack and played positively.
St Bede’s were then reduced to 7 for 3 wickets before Jared Bernadin came to the rescue. His quickfire 75 along with Elliot Guest’s measured innings saw St Bede’s home for the loss of 6 wickets with an over and a half remaining.
The final saw St Bede’s play Lancing, who had earlier defeated a very strong Ardingly side. Lancing won the toss and batted first. They were bowled out for 86 with David Anthony’s off-spin accounting for 3 of their wickets; the rest were shared.
St Bede’s then went about the Lancing attack and blasted it to all parts of the ground. James Johnson scored a rapid 32 but the star of the show was Elliot Guest who hammered 46 not out. The total was reached with a mere 5.3 overs gone, for the loss of 1 wicket. Guest hitting the winning runs in style with a huge drive over long off. St Bede’s retained the Langdale Cup with a comprehensive 9 wicket victory.
