St Bede’s through to last Eight of National Cup Competition
St Bede’s made it through to the English Schools’ Football Association Cup quarter finals for the third time in four years when they beat St Bernard’s Grammar School, Slough 4 – 1 on Friday.
A well organised and well disciplined display brought success from a game which could easily have proved to be a tricky tie. Both teams were well matched in the first half which saw no score, but gradually St Bede’s took a grip of the game in the second half and the deadlock was broken after 65 minutes when Ashley Crocombe smashed the ball in from a corner. A second goal quickly followed after 70 minutes when a long throw from Joe Jarmyn was flicked on at the near post for Callum Guest to head home to make it two nil.
James Langston then stroked home after a good move to make it three before St Bernard’s got a goal back to make it a nervy final five minutes. Jay Amin, who had troubled the opposition all day with his pace, then broke away in injury time to set up Langston for a fourth.
The draw for the quarter finals takes place at the end of January
