St Bede’s top in Sussex at A level for Contextual Value Added

This week the latest league tables for school performances were published.

As usual the league tables refuse to recognise those students who take IGCSE examinations rather than GCSE examinations. At St Bede’s a considerable number of students take the more demanding IGCSEs, particularly in Maths and English, yet their results are not counted. Similarly, a number of St Bede’s students will take GCSEs in Years 9 and 10 and are too young to have their results included in the tables.

At A level St Bede’s emerges in the top five per cent of schools in the country and top in Sussex for Contextual Value Added – the extent to which students have improved between KS4 (GCSE) and KS5 (A level). Headmaster Dr Richard Maloney said that “These value-added results are an excellent achievement and continue to demonstrate how well St Bede’s prepares students of all aptitudes and abilities for public examinations. Our ambition to provide our students with a wide range of programmes and to deliver those brilliantly remains undiminished.”
