Project Lessons
Project Lessons enable students to improve their English and enhance their learning while preparing them for the Wednesday excursion. In lessons later in the week, there is the opportunity for students to reflect upon their experience and consolidate their learning.
- Project Lessons are directly related to the Wednesday excursion.
- Project Lessons in any one week are usually taught by the same teacher, who introduces the topic in the first Project Lesson and builds upon the chosen theme during the course of the week.
- These lessons give the students the historical and cultural context which makes the trip more meaningful and enjoyable.
- Project Lessons are based on group work, which encourages team working and fosters the students’ use of spoken English.
- Pre-excursion tasks may include internet-based research activities and background reading.
- Group-based tasks assigned in Project Lessons after the excursion may include taking part in a debate or writing a newspaper article and then reading it out loud to the class.
- Project Lessons are taught and supervised by a different teacher from the English Skills Lessons.
- Project Lessons are often practical e.g. a Project Lesson with the theme of the London Eye may culminate in each class building a model of the London Eye from materials of their choice.
- There is often a fun competitive element e.g. the outputs of the Project Lessons may be “judged” by the Centre Director or Academic Manager.
