Swim star Andrew dominates the South East Open Water competition
St Bede’s swimming star Andrew Horsfall-Turner wrapped up the overall South East Open Water title with a superb victory in the Portsmouth pier to pier 2km swim. Such was the dominance of 15 year old Andrew throughout the summer, he not only won the Junior title but also the Open title taking victories in the Weymouth 3km, Eastbourne 2km and 3km and the South East Championships rounds.
Other St Bede’s swimmers in the series were Ben Jones (14) who finished in 3rd place in both Junior and Open, Emma Horsfall-Turner (13) finishing 4th in the Junior category, Katherine Horsfall-Turner (12) who won the Portsmouth 12 and under round and Anthony White.
Whilst all this was going on, St Bede’s swimmers Michael Faber (17), Anthony White (17), Tom Lamb (17), Stephanie Ketley (16) and Harriet Lambourne (16) were competing in the ASA National Youth Championships in Sheffield. All swum personal best times with Ketley making the semi-final for the 200m freestyle and the final for the 400m freestyle and Lambourne the semi-final for the 100m butterfly.
Head Coach Kevin Ayers has been pleased with the summer season and has already got his squad training hard for the 2009/10 competitions.
