The Railway Children

At the start of the summer term, Year 6 produced a stunning performance of E. Nesbit’s classic story of ‘The Railway Children’. There were, in true St. Bede’s tradition, two casts of main characters in order to encourage the considerable thespian talent emerging from this age group of children. It was a difficult play to perform – with many lines to learn, many songs to sing, many scene changes to perfect and many props to carry. Furthermore, there was the problem of how to stage a crashing steam locomotive in a landslide! The children more than rose to the challenge, and it was a delight to work with such enthusiastic, conscientious and talented youngsters. There were many positive comments from enthralled audiences – here are just a few of the myriad praises received:
“Truly wonderful – I didn’t want it to end.”
“Wow! Wow! Wow! – I loved it!”
“Thank you so much for such an entertaining afternoon”
“A charming production”
“The Bucks Fizz-style ripping petticoats were a fantastic idea!”
“An entertaining and joyous production”
With such good comments, perhaps Year 6 can set their sights on something even bigger next year? ‘Titanic’ perhaps?
