Tom Sawyer
For their annual play, Year 6 performed an ambitious musical version of Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, skilfully directed by Mrs Brundle. They rose to the challenge very well, producing a fast-paced and colourful performance, which the audiences much enjoyed. The adventures of the mischievous Tom and his friend Huck were well portrayed by Harry Wootten and Robbie Lees as Tom and Gilbert Warner- Bore and Cameron Hutson as Huck. Aunt Polly (played by Isobel Beadle and Charlotte Burger) sang very sweetly and the villainous Injun Joe was chillingly acted by Jack Sampson and Josh Angelo. The boys’ discovery of foul play and struggle with their conscience about the right thing to do gave a strong and dramatic ending to the play.
The music added a lighter touch and the period costumes, set and lighting took the audience right back to old Mississippi. Back-drop projections effectively brought the scene to life and the special effects were remarkable. Well done everyone!
