Year 4 visit to Brighton Sea Life Centre

Year 4 pupils from St Bede’s Prep School have been learning about the importance of the seas and oceans which cover approximately 75% of the Earth’s surface. They have discussed the great diversity of occupations connected to the sea and there are already some aspiring Oceanographers and Marine Biologists which was reinforced by their experience on a recent visit to the Sea-life centre in Brighton.

The pupils studied a huge variety of sea life ranging from sea-anemones to black-tipped sharks but the sea-star of the day seemed to be the octopus which was truly fascinating; poetry in motion.

A big highlight of the day was when the pupils all helped feed the turtles, throwing a wonderful variety of greens into their pool, having first learnt how this special vegetarian diet had greatly improved their health since they had been rescued. They could now potentially live to be 120 years!

There was so much to see and do and the pupil’s experiences at the Sea-life centre helped to raise awareness of the living treasure of the sea and our responsibility in preserving it, to be the best it can be.
