Year 6 trip to Canterbury Cathedral
Year 6 pupils from St Bede’s Prep School, as part of their studies of Medieval Realms, made their annual pilgrimage to Canterbury Cathedral and the site of the murder of Thomas Becket. It was a bitterly cold day but that didn't cool their enthusiasm as they dressed up as monks, the murderous knights, King Henry II and Becket himself for a guided tour of the Cathedral. The pupils learned more about the succession of pilgrimages to Canterbury and enjoyed listening to the tales of chivalry, greed, vanity and other examples of medieval mischief at the Canterbury Tales. Back at the Cathedral the pupils took part in a medieval craft workshop where they learned some of the skills of stone masonry, stained glass, heraldry and writing with a quill pen. A great day was had by all and the pupils were able to recount a lot of what they had learned at the brass rubbing workshop the following week.
