Year 6 visit Battle Abbey

Year 6 enjoyed a visit to Battle Abbey and were able to walk the whole way around the battle site, envisaging the battle and discussing the relative advantages and disadvantages of both King Harold's and Duke William's armies. They also enjoyed visiting the excellent new museum on the Battle Abbey site, complete with an engaging video of the battle and a variety of weapons and armour.

Year 6 continued their study of the Norman Conquest with a visit to Lewes Castle on 30th September. Lewes is a fine example of a motte and bailey castle and the pupils enjoyed going up to the shell keep on the top of the motte. They also enjoyed a Norman artefact-handling workshop and a visit to the on-site museum.
