Year 7's adaptations of Grimm's Fairy Tales
During the Autumn Term, Year 7 produced a studio performance of tales taken from the Brothers Grimm. The children had been working on these adaptations in their fortnightly Drama lessons, and although the evening was intended to be a low-key affair, with focus more on characterisation, improvisation and teamwork than on costuming, lighting and scripted text, the final performances were outstanding. There were seven short plays in all, including a rather gruesome adaptation of Cinderella, a funny story with a clear moral in The Hare and the Hedgehog and a much more ethereal tale in The Lady and the Lion.
There were lots of excellent individual performances – too many to mention here – yet what became most apparent was the team spirit of Year 7. What an enthusiastic, conscientious and supportive group of children they are. There were many positive comments from audiences - and many praised the professionalism and polish of the performances, given that it was supposed to be just a light-hearted studio production. My praise and thanks go to all involved and I look forward to working with them again next year.
