Year 7 trip to Eastbourne Redoubt Fortress
Year 7 pupils from St Bede’s Prep school visited the Eastbourne Redoubt fortress and museum as part of their studies of 'Defence of The Realm' and the victory over the threat of invasion by Napoleonic forces. The pupils learnt about the living conditions in such a fortress and how it was operated. They saw many defensive features such as the drop bridge, the glacis and the ever popular 32-pounder cannon on the gun deck. The pupils’ next visit is to the Historic Dockyard and HMS Victory. There is an atmosphere of excitement brewing at school as the children learn more about how we stood up to Napoleon.
