Year Six trip to Lewes Castle
On a cold and windy day in October, Year 6 pupils from St Bede’s Prep School braved the rain and visited Lewes Castle; a splendid example of a Norman Motte and Bailey castle. The pupils enjoyed scaling the motte and climbing the spiral staircase of the stone keep and the inclement weather and low cloud over the Downs added to the atmospheric surroundings. Some were truly astonished at just how high up they were and how steep a climb it would have been for would-be attackers. The pupils learned more about the castle's defensive features, took part in an archaeological artefacts workshop and saw the most amazing model and video about the turbulent history of our County Town.
