A vibrant summer showcase performed by the Legat School of Dance
21 May 2008
The Legat School of Dance has been an integral part of St Bede’s Senior School for eight years now and nothing showcases its importance within the School better than the annual Summer Performance.Dance students from all years, including the last two years at St Bede’s Prep School take part in what is always a wonderful spectacle and culmination of a year’s intensive training. All the performances showed the dancers off to great advantage with a range of moods and styles professionally presented.
The programme opened with a selection of classical pieces to Chopin piano music, the dancers from Years 9, 10 and 11 all dressed in white flowing skirts, and moving swiftly through changing group formations in beautiful mysterious lighting. Central to the performance was a selection of AS and A level student Contemporary Dance choreography which was of the highest standard. Highlights included Sixth Form dancers giving a lively and humorous performance of excerpts from Façade, and a sparkling number, reminiscent of the 1940’s, to music of the Glen Miller Band.
To round off the whole cast performed an enormously ambitious and lively take on the theme and music from Bizet’s Carmen, filling the stage with vibrant colour and vivacious dancing.
Amongst the guests in the audience were Legat Dance graduates, of whom St Bede’s is enormously proud, now studying on Dance Degree Courses at Rambert, Laban and Surrey University.
