St Bede's boys power their way to triumph
23 September 2008
St Bede's boys beat St Andrew's, Brighton College and Vinehall to win their first swimming match of the term. Four age groups fought for four corresponding shields plus the prestige of winning one overall Challenge Cup. The 19-strong St Bede's team powered through their races to claim the prize.
The evening started with the U10s: despite having not taken part in many competitions, Deacon Kitto, Oscar Morris, Daniel Martirossian, Jamie Hopper, Max Ferrari and Ben Gough ensured that the school gained second position on the point's table mid-way through the gala. Next to take part were the U11s (Daniel Narracot, Nathan Horsman, George Pantrey and Josh Faber) who battled hard but will need to put in some practice in order to improve their position in the next match.
Daniel Darabi-Fard, Harrison Kerr, Lucas Morris, Cole Cornford and newcomer ‘speedy Sam Kebbell' took all of the U12 races to the wire but gained victory and claimed the U12 shield. Lastly, came the St Bede's stalwarts in the U13 team who romped home to take a staggering thirty out of the thirty four points needed to win the U13 shield. The Captain, Ben Howell, and Alex Goble won both of their events in the butterfly and front crawl respectively. Joel Harvey and Vincent Langley gained second place in the breaststroke and backstroke.
After what seemed like an eternity the final results were announced and St Bede's was declared the winner of the Challenge Cup. Congratulations, boys - we will all be watching with anticipation as you face your next race.
