Beyond School
St Bede’s has developed this concept as a method of broadening students’ understanding of the importance of exploring their future life options.
With today’s students competing with global graduates for a limited pool of highly skilled jobs, students are advised to make an early connection between their current studies and where these might lead to. They are encouraged to think about the type of job their studies will equip them for and explore the lifestyle they might aspire to.
Myfuture? takes into account the need to offer today’s employers a range of relevant personal skills as well as excellent academic achievements. It provides opportunities for personal development and promotes interaction with professionals and the work environment whenever possible.
In particular, Myfuture? helps students to get to grips with the tough choices and important decisions they face from the ages of 15 – 19 :
L6 Futures Week after AS exams encourages summer research into UCAS choices/ future options post St Bede’s. Optional L6 personal development programme entitled “Finding MY Focus”

- Which A levels? Which university? Which career path?
- How to use a Gap Year effectively?
- outside speakers provide weekly insights into a variety of professions
- events and workshops explore and develop students’ personal skills
- knowledge of the workplace is provided by taking part in work experience – students can organise this themselves via parental contacts.
