U15 Boys' Tennis Team
18 December 2007
St Bede’s U15 Boys’ Tennis Team is through to the semi-finals of the Nationals – the prestigious competition that began in April with 3000 schools entering the ring.
The four boys, Jarryd Bant, Sam Chamberlain, Valentin Clements and Harrison Seward, secured their place at the semis this week when they beat Kent-based school Langney Park.
St Bede’s entered the competition unseeded and along the way beat Tim Henman’s old school, Reeds which was seeded in the top two. Reed’s is currently one of the Lawn Tennis Association’s flagship schools, currently receiving £500,000 student funding from the LTA.
Both semis and final take place in Bath on the 8th and 9th of December. The other three teams left in the competition are Millfield, Loughborough Grammar and Rivington and Blackrod.
St Bede’s Director of Tennis, former Wimbledon player Julie Salmon said: ‘The boys have worked very hard throughout the year to get this far, whatever the outcome in Bath it is a fantastic experience and fantastic achievement’.
