Senior School Debaters Win
29 January 2008
St Bede's Senior School debaters have just won the local area section of the English Speaking Union debating competition. The event was held at Park College and consisted of teams from Brighton College, Eastbourne College, Moira House, Park College and St Bede's.
Representing St Bede's were Ben Noble, age 15 from Selmeston and Bruno Riddy, age 17, from Alfriston, who argued ‘That prisoners should be given the right to vote'.
Ben and Bruno were described as clear winners by the judges after they had argued with great vim. St Bede's Head of English, John Tuson said: ‘We've had some great debaters at St Bede's over the past decade, but these are, potentially, two of the best. They're intelligent, determined and, when the occasion demands, quite stroppy. If you were up in court, you'd want them defending you'.
The second round will take place within the next couple of weeks which will embrace schools from Kent, West Sussex and Surrey.
